Dr. Derek Anselmo was born in Southern California but grew up living in several states including Oregon, Utah, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. He was very active in sports as an adolescent. His experience with orthopedic surgeons, athletic trainers, and physical therapists opened his eyes to the possibility of a career that would allow him to help athletes return to sports and excel. Having also had several friends and family members in podiatry, he was able to identify how foot and ankle surgeons play a vital role in sports medicine and other areas that help patients maximize their quality of life.
Dr. Anselmo received his Bachelor of Science in International Business from Utah Valley University where he also played varsity Rugby. During This time he also served an LDS Mission in Brazil and still speaks Portuguese fluently. He then returned to Pennsylvania to complete his doctoral degree at Temple University and his residency in reconstructive foot & ankle surgery through the Tower Health System in association with Premier Orthopedics. In addition to his comprehensive surgical training, Dr. Anselmo also spent four months working with the foot and ankle consultant to the Philadelphia Eagles in a practice dedicated solely to orthotics, biomechanics, and sports medicine in elite athletes.
Dr. Anselmo is the primary author on several peer-reviewed papers that have been published in the leading journals of foot and ankle surgery. He also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery as well as the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association.
Dr. Anselmo lives in Utah County with his wife, three daughters, and Rocky the french bulldog. In his free time he enjoys playing golf and watching rugby, hockey, and football.
