Ankle Arthritis

Arthritis in the ankle is most commonly described as chronic joint inflammation that causes frequent swelling, aches, and pain in the tissues around the ankle and other surrounding connecting ligaments. The most common type of arthritis found in the foot and ankle is known as Osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease caused by wear-and-tear that breaks down the cartilage. Additionally, cartilage is the connective tissue at the ends of the bones that protects and cushions bones during movement.

In most cases, Osteoarthritis becomes prevalent and slowly develops after injury. In other cases, poor mechanics such as flat feet, abnormally high arches, or a pronated/supinated gait can lead to Osteoarthritis. Any pain or discomfort in or around the ankle should be evaluated by a Foot & Ankle Specialist. Click the Schedule Appointment button above to contact our office right away.
